9-man LBC run, and heartbreak

My group did Bhaflau for the first time in a long time last night. We went up with 9 people: mnk mnk pup, brd rdm rdm whm whm blm.
It actually proved to be exceptionally easy, especially after doing so many runs in Arrapago. We got to the boss with 54 minutes remaining, and most of us were completely unlocked. The only notable cell absence was that we didn't get any strength to drop, which is about a 10% per-punch penalty on monk.
One MNK accidentally subbed war, so I had to solo straight-tank LBC, and it was actually fairly manageable. With pro4, full equip minus ranged slot, and no other defense booster I was taking 150-250 per non-crit. Crits dealt 500+.
I had Shell5 during the fight and boy did it ever help. The AoEs were on the order of 200-300. Even despite his AoEs stripping shadows, I had little trouble keeping up shadows with 22% gear haste, haste spell, and a single march.
The big problem we ran into was him being totally gay with Homing Missile. After 70%, he starts turning to face the tank after every so often. As I was busy tanking, I couldn't time the interval between turns. Several times he turned and immediately used a TP move, even though I was running around his side. So we ate several homing missiles which caused him to eat our mages. Our BLM did not attempt to stun, perhaps under the impression that it is 100% immune; next time I'll ask him to stun anyway.
We wiped once at 43%. We had dots on but screwed up with layering them and he regenned to 63% before we got them back on. We held him for about 8 minutes this way, and by the time we re-engaged he was 61%.
One of the RDMs terminally DC'd at 30%ish and despite that, we took him down under 10% before things went wonky again. As he gets lower, he double-attacks more frequently, and starts triple-attacking even. He interrupted me during an ichi with a triple-attack that I countered twice and took one hit. It also seems like his attack power increased because I took almost 400 damage from that single hit. I ended up dying, homing missiles started flying, and we went into zombie mode again. The culmination of this was him dying to DOT while not claimed, so we got no drops whatsoever.
That said, even at this point we had 15 minutes remaining, tons of time to recover even if we let him regen a tick. In the future, if we wipe at 1-2% we'll let him regen to 12% before reapplying dots.
